Invisible Man
How can you write a review worthy of this work? After finishing the final page of this novel I realized, I can't. However, I can take the time to dedicate a space to appreciating this phenomenal piece of literature. This site seeks to bring the world of Ellison’s Invisible Man to life through various exhibits that will allow you to explore and appreciate the themes, history, influences and symbolism of the novel. Plot Summary
Invisible Man is the memoir of a nameless narrator--an African American man in his early twenties. The narrator lives as a black man in a society of white supremacy and tries to use his voice to instigate change in his society. He recounts his experience of how his very existence is often discounted and unacknowledged. Invisible Man is a young African American man's journey to self-discovery and realization that in spite of of the naysayers and those who refuse to recognize his identity, he does indeed have a voice and a presence in society.
Publication
Horizon magazine published the first chapter of Invisible Man in 1948 and the completed work was published and dispersed in 1952. The second edition was published in 1980.
